Meet Steve Wheeler

May’s Artist of the month.

Steve Wheeler discusses his art practice with Deirdre Kashdan that combines various disciplines, including upcycling materials. Steve shares his artistic aspirations for immersive installations and a possible exhibition in an atmospheric venue such as Deal Castle. The conversation emphasized the importance of creativity and balancing time management while impacting on one’s well being.

Spotlight on April artist Elsa Hunt

With her love of colour clearly evident in her work, Elsa Hunt wants the viewer to be excited, uplifted and immersed in her paintings.

‘I can feel myself and my soul relax and come alive when I paint with colour. It lifts the spirit, brings joy, and  sets me up in the right mood for your day. Art nurtures me, it gives me a hug.’

Dominic Harper has found a place on Deal Pier on 26^th December for the last nine years, ready to photograph the annual rush to the sea, as organised by the Deal Rotary Pirates. An increasingly popular activity, with qualities of renewal, escape and ritual immersion, ‘a bath of multitude’.

The transient event is recorded by Dominic through hundreds of photographs, then constructed as a composite image for each year. Dominic’s first solo show includes every year from 2015 (x2020), together with paintings of landscapes and figures.

Philip Bennetta and Susan Bennetta are pleased that their short film “The Dancers” will be showing at the Parallax Art Fair, Kensington Town Hall, London UK 17-18 February, with a Private View on 16 February 7.30-9.30 pm.

Editions: the Print Show

An invitation from Catherine Robinson at the Horsebridge, Whitstable.

Editions: the Print Show runs from the 20 January until 12 February 2024.

The exhibition is a celebration of the great variety of printmaking and includes explanations and displays of the wide range of printmaking techniques. 

There is a programme of artist-led workshops and demonstrations throughout the exhibition, and on Saturday 10 February, 2.00 – 4.00 pm, Catherine will be in the gallery for a free drop-in demonstration of how to print an etching.
