Jeff Laurents

I’m quite elderly, (83). I have degrees in Economics and Politics and Photography and a Certificate in Film Studies. I taught for many years including lecturing on film for the British Film Institute Education Department.

I am a photographer, living in Kent. I photograph local scenes, many of which are iconic. I also photograph landscapes and cityscapes and enjoy creating abstract images. I use various software systems to manipulate my original photographs and transform them into more painterly versions. I am therefore less interested in realism, but more fascinated by ways in which I can add my own style, to create more artistic versions. This process is mostly experimental, and I may frequently reject transformations until I’m happy with the result. This is where my judgement, or as some would say, my “eye” comes into play. I stand or fall by the extent to which my audience appreciates my work.

I should also say that I have great fun in this pursuit. The local scene and landscape photographs get me out and about, and given my advanced years, I find the excercise of walking around lots of different places, with my cameras, and in the fresh air, especially in coastal locations, makes me feel better!

Once I am happy with my images, I make them into various products, including calendars, jigsaw puzzles, greetings cards, postcards and prints of various sizes, (the latter can be mounted and/or framed). I sell these to local galleries and shops, but also online and through social media. It helps to pay some of the bills!
