Canterbury Museums & Galleries Artist Opportunities

Creativity is fundamental in making The Beaney a vibrant and exciting place for everyone. Whenever possible we offer opportunities for artists to create, explore, engage, share and challenge using our collections and building as a resource for inspiration.
Current Artist Opportunities:

Beyond War – Visualising Peace, a selling show (10 November 2018 – 10 February 2019).

The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge, Canterbury, is inviting submissions for a selling show that takes as its starting point the end of WWI and the view of the future for its survivors.

2D artists and photographers are asked to respond to this theme or that of concepts of peace and memorials, as well as our view of these issues a hundred years later.

Between SEAS and Sky

An exhibition of work from the members of SEAS.
3 – 24 June 2018

SEAS (South East ArtistS) is a self funding and voluntary organisation which promotes, supports and provides a network for our vibrant artistic community in Deal and the surrounding areas. Established in 2004 it now has a membership of 55 people, ranging from professional artists to those just interested in the arts.
Twenty five members have come together for this exhibition, which in doing so celebrates the huge variety of local artistic talent that SEAS has to offer and the range of artistic practice and styles between the membership. The exhibition allows artists a wealth of inspirations: our location, the sea, the sky, Nature, our island and everything in between.

Dover Studio Collective celebrates Fête de l’estampe

A collective of Dover-based artists and their guests are opening up their studio building to the public again, presenting both complete and in-progress print-based work across their active workspaces. The event, part of the sixth Fête de l’estampe festival, will bring together contemporary print and artists’ books and aims to present an expansive view / idea of what print can be. All are welcome to visit this free studio event and no pre-booking is required.

Saturday/samedi 26/5: 11.00-17.00h
Sunday/dimanche 27/5: 11.00-17.00h

Over the years, the success of this festival has made it an unmissable event in the cultural calendar. With the support of the French ministry of Culture, La Fête de l’estampe provides a festive opportunity for many to discover this rich art that includes lithography, engraving, serigraphy, artists’ books and even digital prints. Exhibitions, outdoor studios, training sessions, open studios, conferences, performances, auctions, and giant prints are organised in France and in many other countries in Europe on 26th May, 2018, for one day, or longer in some areas.

Reflections on the Landscape: Against the Tide

24/25 February 2018 10 – 6pm
River Garage Studios, River Street, River, Kent CT17 0RB

Reflections on the Landscape: Against the tide will be the inaugural exhibition held at the recently opened River Garage Studios. The exhibition will show work from nine artists based in Dover.
Each artist voluntarily submitted work to be included in the exhibition. The only criteria for their selection was that they lived and worked in Dover and the surrounding area. As a result their work has been influenced by the unique visual and cultural history of the town.
Dover is moulded by its tide, a place always bringing in new life and ideas, as well as a place shaped and defined by its history. It is a town as relevant today as it has ever been.
Through bringing these artists together we can reflect on the influence of place and environment on their work; whether economic, cultural, visual or ecological.

Exhibiting artists:
Kate Beaugie – Joseph Black – Drew Burrett – Samuel Capell – Paul Dagys –
Benjamin Hunt – Joanna Jones – Clare Smith – Mike Tedder

Curated by Joseph Black and Louise Webb
Free entry.
