St George’s Parish Hall, High Street, Deal
To launch the Open Studios, South East Artists are returning to St George’s Parish Hall for their popular Postcard Art event. Artists will sell original framed postcard artwork for a fixed price of just £20 each.
You will also be able to pick up information regarding Open Studios which starts the following weekend.
Saturday 23 June
Meet the Artists on Saturday at Linden Hall Studio was a great event and we are thrilled how great the show looks. Hope you’ve seen the Sue’s and Dodie’s interviews here:
SEAS Open Studios/ Art Trail is run almost concurrently with the Deal Festival of Music and Arts, during which time artists welcome the public to view their work over two compulsory weekends;
Sat 30th June – Sun 1st July and concluding on Sat 7th – Sun 8th July 2018.
We will again be hiring the Astor and have the Angling Club available too, if artists feel they’d like to be more central or, for a variety of reasons, can’t open their studio. This year we are again optionally incorporating additional events to our Open Studios (see section D and F) so please fill in appropriately.
The artists who organise Open Studios operate in an unpaid and voluntary capacity. The smooth running of the event therefore relies on all the artists taking part in helping us.
Please find below the application form for SEAS OPEN STUDIOS for 30th June-1st July AND 7th July-8th July 2018. I’m sending it now as design of the brochure is time dependent and the form has been altered in light of the core meeting held on 15/1 and so all relevant payment dates and event information can be found on the form. Any further questions please ask at the members meeting on 19/1/2018
If you do not wish to participate in OS this year, but would be happy to help with promotion and distribution of leaflets or any other aspect please let us know either at the members meeting on this Fri evening or before.
Please consider your place on the open studios trail and open your home/garden/studio, share with others as a guest or apply to be exhibiting at the Astor for the first two weekends in July.
Please forward application forms to Kate Baker, 4 St Edmunds Road by end of January for processing by 11/2/17. Delays will affect the team in the next stage of the process.
Please download the application form here:
SEAS artists will be exhibiting in November at the Ringwould Festive Fair, which will take place at Ringwould Village Hall, and the dates for this event have been confirmed as 26/27 November.
SEAS Open Studios 2016
Explore. Discover. Enjoy.
During six days this Summer artists and craft makers from SEAs, Deal’s vibrant artist collective, extend a unique invitation to the public. As part of Deal’s Festival of Music & the Arts, artists transform their homes, studios and gardens into temporary galleries for the 2016 Open Studios & Art Trail. The town’s Astor Theatre is also the venue for a number of participating artists.
SEAs artists embrace a rich diversity of genres, media, techniques and themes. This year’s art trail, featuring established artists and newcomers, offers an exclusive glimpse into the artist’s world, and a chance to discover unique works of art and craft that you won’t find elsewhere.
SEAs is an artist-led organisation that seeks to create opportunities for its members to exhibit their work and to increase public engagement with the visual arts locally. The SEAs Open Studios & Art Trail in Deal and its neighbourhoods uncovers a rich seam of creative energy in one of Kent’s most cosmopolitan, welcoming and popular coastal towns.
For full artist listings, times & venues please see the SEAs Open Studio & Art Trail brochure.
SEAS members Susan Absolon and Nicki Vowls will both be exhibiting their work during April.
At the Astor Theatre in Deal, Nicki is holding an exhibition of her popular linoprints and woodcuts, most relating to the Deal area. The exhibition will be in the bar at the Astor Theatre from 2nd to 30th April.
In Canterbury, Susan’s oil painting ‘Dead Dog’ has been selected from an open submission for The Beaney Front Room’s forthcoming ‘Animal Magic’ exhibition, which runs from 9th April until 4th May.
