My work is rooted in a deep fascination with the quiet poetry of the natural world. I paint birds and skies not simply as subjects, but as moments of stillness, transition and emotional truth. Each piece begins with light. The way it shifts across a wing. The way it softens a cloud. The way it transforms an ordinary moment into something contemplative and meaningful.
Working primarily in acrylics, I build gentle layers of colour to create atmosphere, depth and a sense of calm presence. My backgrounds often drift between tones, echoing the soft dissolves of early morning or the glow of late evening. Against these shifting skies, birds become symbols of resilience, connection and inner steadiness. They travel great distances, weather storms and seek out the light again and again. Their journeys mirror our own.
Much of my inspiration comes from the British coastline and countryside, where small encounters with wildlife can feel like quiet gifts. I aim to capture that sensation – the pause, the breath, the feeling that something significant is happening in a fleeting instant.
My paintings are often described as meditative. I approach them as a way of slowing down. Looking closely. Allowing emotion to rise gently to the surface. Many collectors connect with my work because certain birds hold personal meaning – reminders of loved ones, symbols of hope or markers of important moments. It is an honour to paint pieces that hold space for those stories.
At its heart, my practice is about guiding the viewer toward stillness. Toward reflection. Toward light. If my work offers even a moment of comfort, clarity or quiet joy, then it has done what I hoped it would.
