Richard Hansell Knott

Richard is a figurative painter, and portrait artist. He grew up in rural Galloway, Scotland, and now lives and practices near Canterbury. Inspired by themes of physical and psychological connection to place and landscape (both exterior and interior) he works mainly in oil and charcoal.

Also an actor, his work on stage and screen with character impacts directly on his depiction of, and interest in, the psychology of his portrait sitters. The undervalued genre of still-life is also a keen area of exploration for him.

He is currently completing the Foundation Degree in Contemporary Portraiture at the London Art Academy, and recently was took part in a group exhibition of work inspired by the divergent theme of ‘otherness’ (entitled ‘Altera’) at Nolia’s Gallery on London’s South Bank.
