SEAS Open Studios 2016

SEAS Open Studios 2016

Explore. Discover. Enjoy.

During six days this Summer artists and craft makers from SEAs, Deal’s vibrant artist collective, extend a unique invitation to the public. As part of Deal’s Festival of Music & the Arts, artists transform their homes, studios and gardens into temporary galleries for the 2016 Open Studios & Art Trail. The town’s Astor Theatre is also the venue for a number of participating artists.

SEAs artists embrace a rich diversity of genres, media, techniques and themes. This year’s art trail, featuring established artists and newcomers, offers an exclusive glimpse into the artist’s world, and a chance to discover unique works of art and craft that you won’t find elsewhere.

SEAs is an artist-led organisation that seeks to create opportunities for its members to exhibit their work and to increase public engagement with the visual arts locally. The SEAs Open Studios & Art Trail in Deal and its neighbourhoods uncovers a rich seam of creative energy in one of Kent’s most cosmopolitan, welcoming and popular coastal towns.

For full artist listings, times & venues please see the SEAs Open Studio & Art Trail brochure.

Seas – Open Studios/Art Trail – 2016 call to artists

SEAS Open Studios/Art Trail is being run almost concurrently with the Deal Festival of Music and Arts, during which artists are invited to welcome the public to view their work over three weekends starting on Saturday 25th June.

Just for your information, the third weekend 9&10 July is optional final weekend as we discussed and realise that both Wimbledon and Royal Marines bandstand event will be running also, which may reduce your visitors.

This year we are again incorporating additional events to our Open Studios (see section D and F) so please fill in appropriately.

We will again be hiring the Astor for the first two weekends for those artists who, for a variety of reasons, can’t open their studio… 25&26 June and 2&3 July

The artists who organise Open Studios operate in an unpaid and voluntary capacity. The smooth running of the event therefore relies on all the artists taking part in helping us.

I would urge you to decide if you would like to be involved, it can be at your own studios, it can be at the Astor theatre or it could be that members collaborate and share space at their residence/ studio. The different variations allow for visitors and appreciators of the local art scene a brief glimpse into the life of you the artist, and an opportunity to purchase directly from you.

The application form outlines the cost implications and I would prompt you to read carefully and then complete the form and send it back with the fee to myself (Mrs. Kate Baker) before the deadline of the 29/2/16. It is also imperative to renew membership with SEAS (through Jim Foreman) before the 29/2/16.

SEAS Winter Open Studios 2014

South East Artists (SEAS)
WINTER OPEN STUDIOS 2014:
In and around Deal:
29/30 November & 6/7 December:

Following the success of this Summer’s Open Studio & Art Trail, members of SEAS (South East Artists) will be opening their houses and studios for the popular Winter Open Studio event. During the last weekend in November and the first weekend in December, 14 artists will be mounting festive exhibitions of their work, turning their homes and studios into temporary galleries open to the public.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas the SEAS Open Studios provide an ideal opportunity for discovering unique and memorable gifts that will surprise and please your family and friends. Shop at your leisure and in the welcoming environment of an artist’s house or studio for a unique selection of original and hand crafted items, from paintings, ceramics, prints and photographs, to glassware and textiles. Make a day of it and visit each of the venues to find affordable and distinctive items made by local artists and artisans.

Whether you are searching for a personal gift, gifts for the home, or even simply to treat yourself to something special, Jane Adorney’s whimsical collection of handcrafted jewellery, Bridget McVey’s Japanese inspired porcelain trays, bowls and vases and Kate Baker’s richly decorative mosaic and glass fusions will all be sure to catch your eye. Nicki Vowls, whose prints celebrating local heroes of WW1 and of the seas are well known locally and much coveted, will also have a selection of her popular, quirky automata to tempt you. When the decorations are taken down your walls need not be bare, as paintings, photographs and textile art feature in many of the venues. From Caroline Yates’ enigmatic paintings of crowds, Kath Love’s intricately stitched textiles, Liz Mott’s photographic land, sea and skyscapes, and Rosemary Stow’s unusual handmade rag rugs – all of the artists will extend a warm welcome and ensure that your Christmas shopping is a memorable adventure, rather than a chore. If you are searching for something small such as an unusual card or stocking filler, or if you want to push the boat out with a special gift such as a framed photograph, painting or textile, be sure not to miss this popular Winter Open Studio event in the heart of Deal and its neighbourhoods. Celebrate as you shop and feast on the variety of colour, texture and creativity that is available on your doorstep. A leaflet is available in the town with details of each studio and its opening times.

SEAS is an artist-led, self-funding and voluntary organisation that aims to promote, support and create opportunities for Deal’s vibrant creative community. Its members number artists and artisans working locally in a rich diversity of media, who bring many skills to the community through public exhibitions, community events and workshops across East Kent. The Open Studios offer an exclusive glimpse into the artists’ world, and a chance to discover and collect unique works of art and craft direct from the maker. Membership is open to anyone interested in supporting the arts, as an exhibiting member or as a friend.

Call for artists – SEAS Open Studios 2014

Are you interested in being part of our Open Studios and Art Trail this summer over 3 weekends in June and July during the Deal Festival of Music and Arts? This is a well established event that has been happening over the past 9 years for artists in and around Deal organised by SEAS (South East ArtistS), a local art group.

It’s a unique opportunity to sell, show and talk about your work to the public and to make contact with other local artists

Also this year we are also offering a free exhibition/selling place for an up and coming young artist at our Astor Theatre event. At this event last year we had 300 visitors and it would be an excellent venue for a young artist to display their work.

For more details please contact Marilyn Williams on 01304 363118 or marilyn@feet-first.co.uk or download an application form here:
